Scott Wildman who is in charge of the special legislative hearing on the 20th indicated that they are not planning on subpoenaing Pacifica's books.
When Bensky explained how important it is to discover where the money is going, Wildman seemed like he would be influenced by letters explaining the need for discovery and politely demanding access to the books by the hearing committee. He also indicated he would be pleased to have the hearing broadcast live on KPFA.

The reassuring words of Bob Marley - "every little thing's gonna be all right" - are being broadcast over the airwaves of the oldest and best-known non-commercial radio station in the US. But few who have witnessed the turmoil at KPFA's studios in Berkeley, California, over the past few weeks believe the sentiments for a moment.

STEERING COMMITTEE DEMANDS GOOD FAITH NEGOTIATION
7/24... Andrea Buffa reports on current negotiations, actions & events.

Committee mounts a letter writing campaign to remove The Pacifca Board.
The Pacifica Board has become an intolerable adversary of the founding principles of The Pacifica Foundation and must be removed.

Our goal is the removal of the entire Pacifica Board of Directors -- either voluntarily by resignation, or involuntarily by Court Order.

Nearly 100 non-violent protesters (including 7 KPFA staff members) have been arrested. We need money to help with their legal situation. A mass rally is scheduled for July 31; it will take thousands of dollars to stage that big event. We have plans to take out ads in major magazines and newspapers coast to coast. There are continuing communications costs, including this web site and mailings. We are helping to support fired and suspended KPFA staff. (Entire Text & addresses from a Letter from Barbara Lubin)

Pacifica using Listener's donations for "crisis management" P.R. Firm.
After using anti-labor consulting firms, notorious union-busting armed security guards, and a "takeover specialist" personnel consultant, Pacifica Radio has now hired a notorious "crisis management" PR firm, Michael Fineman and Associates, to try to spin their way out of the crisis their actions have caused. Their first effort is to make executive director Lynn Chadwick "more available" to the media. Chadwick's first interview, in today's San Francisco Chronicle, stresses her sadness at the crisis she has helped precipitate and in fact has made worse by her actions.

Transmitter Pickets Needed
Dear Friends, Message has come in for anyone available to please go up to the KPFA transmitter to support the CWA picket there. Pickets needed from 8 am - 5 pm.
Continuous CWA Union Picket Line is needed at the Transmitter to prevent scab signal from being connected to KPFA transmitter. Also, we need to write and let KPFK's workers know that Pacifica management has plans to use their voices to scab on the KPFA staff and community! To get there, go up Claremont (road behind the Claremont Hotel), turn right at Grizzly Peak, go for 1/2 - 1/3 mile to the access road on the left. Parking is right there by the side of the road. Dress warmly! Thanks to all! -- John Sheridan

FUTURE PLANS:
We might think about organizing pickets, civil disobedience and demonstrations in front of Fineman and Associates in San Francisco.

Do you know anyone working at the Presidio or Ft. Mason in non profits? If any radio program is broadcast over 94.1 from Western Pacific Radio at Ft. Mason we should organize a demonstration there as well.

Arrestee Orientation Meeting!
The National Lawyer's Guild attorneys who are representing our arrestees are holding a large orientation meeting on Monday night, August 2, at 7:30pm. These attorneys will help coordinate all groups of arrestees, and try and develop an overall strategy. This is IMPORTANT.
Call the National Lawyer's Guild at 415-285-1055 for location and details - also call if you are an arrestee and CAN'T make it - we need your name and number! If you KNOW an arrestee, write down this number and give it to them ASAP.
